Smoke Alarm.

There are some human routines that can be impossible to explain to a canine. Oven cleaning is one of them. This morning the kitchen was hazy with smoke, and Miles was not only concerned about his safety, but also about mine. He insisted on waiting on the deck until most of the smoke had cleared, but stuck close by the door staring at me. Eventually he came back in, but hid under the counter, still staring at me. I can tell he trusts me because despite his confusion, he waited it out. I seemed calm, so he figured everything was alright. We can't speak each other's languages, but body language says a lot.

{  Waiting on the deck for the smoke to clear  }
{  Tail down, ears to the side, eyes closed.... Classic worried Miles stance  }
{  "Why are you still in there?!? Evacuate! ASAP!"  }
{  Hiding under the kitchen counter  }
{  Highly unsettled  }
{  "It is cold outside, and I don't know how much more I can take.  But you are in here, you seem calm, it must be okay?"  }

I swear, Miles and MacTavish look so much alike it is amazing...even when they are stressed! I love the ears which I call seagull ears and MacTavish displays them when he is unhappy or begging for his dinner.

Cynthia, your comments are priceless... "Seagull ears"?!? Finally a name for the expression. That is too good.
